The Midnight Lighthouse

Daniel had always been fascinated by the old lighthouse at the edge of town. It hadn’t been used in decades, yet some people claimed that its light still shone at midnight.

One evening, while walking along the shore, he noticed something unusual. The lighthouse door, which was always locked, stood slightly open. A strong gust of wind pushed it wider, as if inviting him inside.

His heart pounded, but curiosity got the better of him. He stepped inside.

The spiral staircase creaked under his weight as he climbed higher and higher. When he reached the top, he was breathless. The lantern room was empty—no modern equipment, no electricity.

Yet, at exactly midnight, the lighthouse suddenly lit up.

Daniel turned, expecting to see someone behind him, but he was alone. He stepped closer to the giant glass lens and noticed a small journal resting on the windowsill. It was old and worn, with a name written inside:

"Captain Elias Harper – 1902."

Flipping through the pages, Daniel realized the journal belonged to the last lighthouse keeper. The final entry read:

"Even in death, I will keep this light burning for those lost at sea."

A chill ran down his spine. Was Captain Harper still keeping his promise… even after all these years?

Suddenly, the light flickered. A shadow moved near the staircase. Daniel turned sharply, but there was no one there. He felt a cold presence behind him, as if someone was watching.

Gripping the journal, he ran down the stairs and out of the lighthouse, gasping for breath. He turned back and saw the light go out, leaving the tower in complete darkness.

The next morning, he returned with the town’s historian, but the lighthouse was locked again. The journal was gone.

Nobody believed his story, but Daniel knew what he had seen. And every night, when the clock struck twelve, he watched from afar as the lighthouse came back to life—keeping its silent watch over the sea.
