The Disappearing Train

James had always been fascinated by trains, especially the old ones that ran through the countryside. Every morning, on his way to school, he would watch the 7:45 train pass by the station. It was an old steam train, painted deep blue, with golden letters on the side that read "Midland Express."

One day, while waiting at the station, he noticed something strange. The train wasn’t on the schedule board. How could that be? It passed every morning at the same time.

Confused, he asked the stationmaster, an elderly man named Mr. Hughes.

"The 7:45 train?" Mr. Hughes looked at James with a puzzled expression. "Son, that train hasn’t run for over fifty years."

James felt a chill. "But I see it every morning!"

Mr. Hughes sighed and shook his head. "If you really do, then you’re seeing a ghost train."

That evening, James couldn't stop thinking about what Mr. Hughes had said. The next morning, he arrived earlier than usual and waited at the station, his eyes fixed on the tracks.

At exactly 7:45, the blue train appeared, just like always. Its wheels moved smoothly, and a few passengers sat by the windows. Determined to prove it was real, James pulled out his phone to take a picture—but when he looked at the screen, the train wasn’t there.

His heart pounded. He could see the train with his own eyes, but his camera showed nothing.

Summoning his courage, James took a step forward as the train slowed down. Just as he reached out to touch it, a voice behind him shouted, "Stop!"

It was Mr. Hughes, running toward him. "You really see it, don’t you?" he asked, out of breath.

James nodded.

Mr. Hughes sighed. "They say this train was lost in a tunnel collapse decades ago, but sometimes, on misty mornings, it reappears—still trying to complete its final journey."

James stared at the disappearing train. Was it real? Or just a shadow of the past?

One thing was certain—he would never look at the railway the same way again.
