The Mysterious Lighthouse

Lena loved the ocean. Every summer, she visited her grandparents, who lived in a small coastal town. One evening, while walking along the beach, she noticed an old lighthouse standing at the edge of the cliffs. The lighthouse hadn’t been used for many years, but for some reason, Lena saw a dim light shining from the top.

“That’s strange,” she thought. “I thought this lighthouse was abandoned.”

Curious, she decided to take a closer look. As she climbed the rocky path leading to the lighthouse, she felt a cool breeze and heard the waves crashing below. When she reached the entrance, she saw that the door was slightly open.

Lena hesitated for a moment, but then she stepped inside. The air smelled of salt and old wood. The room was filled with dust, and cobwebs covered the corners. She saw an old staircase leading up to the top.

As she climbed, the wooden steps creaked under her weight. When she reached the top, she was surprised to see an old man sitting in a chair near the lantern. He was staring out at the sea.

The man turned and smiled at her. “You must be wondering why this lighthouse is still shining,” he said.

Lena nodded. “I thought it was abandoned.”

The man chuckled. “It was. But I come here every evening to keep the light on. I used to be the lighthouse keeper many years ago. Ships may no longer need this light, but I still believe it’s important to keep it shining.”

Lena listened carefully. She had read about lighthouse keepers before, but she never thought she would meet one.

Before she left, the man handed her a small seashell. “Take this as a memory,” he said.

Lena smiled and thanked him. As she walked back to her grandparents' house, she looked at the lighthouse one last time. The light was still shining, and she knew she would never forget this mysterious and magical encounter.
